Every Master’s programme consists of 10 modules (5 per semester), each worth 4 credits plus a thesis (academic research or business plan) of 20 credits. For each module, students spend 18 hours in the classroom over 6 weeks. The semester is split into two blocks: Block 1 (first 6 weeks + presentation week) and Block 2 (second 6 weeks + presentation week). Each module is taught and graded by one teacher, before going through the moderation process conducted by the academic department.
The evaluation structure is the same for every module, broken down as such:
20% of the grade will be based on how students participate/engage in class and with the virtual classroom space, Canvas.
ESEI uses the project-based learning and assessment methodology across its master programmes. PBL&A connects students with the real world. The idea is that students participate in learning and assessment in a way that reflects the experiences of a working professional. This means learning and honing 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration.
The PBL structure is based on students working in groups. Together, they develop projects that require creativity and the ability to work together with other individuals who they might not necessarily get along with - just like in the workplace. This way, students learn to manage themselves, work as a team, negotiate and communicate with each other.
The PBL approach is entirely student-focused and mostly student-led. It adds a lot of value, meaning, engagement and fun to the learning experience. The main benefit of Project-Based Learning is that by the time students graduate, they will essentially have a portfolio of work. By working on problems based on real business, they will acquire experience that is directly applicable to what they’ll be doing as future employees or business owners. While working on projects, students sometimes get to collaborate with local businesses - not only do they tackle real-life business problems as ‘consultants’ for real companies, but they also gain valuable connections and opportunities that could help them develop their careers in the future.
Students are given the autonomy, flexibility and responsibility of working together on a project. It’s up to the teacher to decide on the format of the project - it’s very open, so for example, it can be a case study, a written report, a video, a role-playing activity, a podcast, a blog, a website, etc. The teachers create the project briefs and oversee the progress that teams are making week after week, with regular check-in points.
“The project based learning methodology is the most effective way to gain hands-on experience. Throughout the whole year we got to attend workshops, conferences and networking events with significant value to me and I think every student should take part in this.”

You should try your best to attend all classes, though we understand that on occasion this can be impossible. Therefore, our master programme attendance policy allows you to miss 2 out of 6 classes per module, unjustified. The only reason an absence would be justified, meaning it wouldn’t count as one of your 3 permitted absences, is if you are unwell and can provide an official medical note. Remember that any absence will hinder your learning and thus likely jeopardise your results.
ESEI’s master programmes follow the Project-Based Learning and Assessment methodology. This means you will work on projects that reflect real business exercises, often in groups meaning you develop the key 21st century skills that are top priority for employers. Check out this ESEI blog post and learn all about how it works!
Each module has 4 assessment components: a group submission (40%), an individual submission (20%) and a formal oral presentation (20%) for your module project, as well as a participation grade (20%) based on your participation during classes.
