Your career starts at ESEI: Helping our graduates navigate the future
Albert Einstein once said, ‘The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know’. While that seems like a daunting thought, we’ve made it our mission at ESEI to help you become an independent, lifelong learner.
As our students progress in their bachelor’s and master’s programmes, they inevitably start thinking about graduation and beyond. And, of course, there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing you’ve completed a degree; that you have spent so hours of your time studying, learning, and working towards something that will change your life for the better. It’s an achievement well worthy of a celebration.
Still, it’s also worth remembering that, rather than finding yourself at the end of a stage in your life, you’re actually at the beginning of a new path.
That’s where our careers service comes in. We are here to help you navigate the difficult decisions and choices you face in your future – and we do this in a number of different ways.
Career seminars to prepare you for the future
Throughout the school year we host a number of career-focused seminars. Our aim is to provide you with the tools and know-how you need to get your job hunting off to a good start.
“We want to help our students be unique, and stand out from the millions of other candidates,” says ESEI director Carlota Estera. “We make them think about and boost their strengths, work on their weaknesses to build on themselves as human beings and top professionals.”
Our seminars cover four topics; self-assessment and career planning, CV and personal branding, creating cover letters and a hotshot LinkedIn profile, as well as acing your interviews and recruitment tests. You can also read more about these topics on this blog:
- This article, by ESEI professor Luca Dell’oro, The Key Strategies behind building a powerful online personal brand will help you manage your image across social and professional networks.
- Our article 7 golden rules for writing a knockout resume will give you some top advice and help you stand out from the crowd.
- And our article Rocking your first job interview in 7 steps will walk you through what to do when you finally get that exciting invitation to meet a hiring manager!
“I do strongly believe that happy leaders are the ones capable to make a positive impact in society,” Carlota continues.
Coaching and Counselling
Our careers coaching service, led by Carlota Estera, aims to help you find focus and start your career – and life – in a fulfilling, happy way.
“Looking for a job is a job, setting up a company is a challenge and understanding what you really want is sometimes confusing,” says Carlota. “At ESEI, we are trained to guide and inspire our students with coaching and career development sessions – not to look for any available job offer on the market, but to look for each individual’s dream job/profession.”
After laying out your objectives, both big and small, professional and personal, you’ll learn how to set things in motion and turn your dreams into objectives with solid plans. Read more about this in Carlota’s article How coaching can uncover your objectives and lead to fulfilment
Our Career Council is also here on campus to give you specific advice, answer your questions and help you move towards your career objectives anytime you need help.
Events and opportunities
Each term we are pleased to welcome a range of companies from Barcelona and beyond to our careers fair. Here you can learn all about the opportunities in the industries you are most interested in, make new contacts, and potentially even find an internship position. You can read more about this in our post Connecting talent and opportunity at the ESEI career fair.
“We organise career fairs so our students can implement their soft and networking skills with several companies in one day,” says Carlota. “We work with a list of companies looking for internships and we connect companies with students. We also help our students find internships for themselves, if they have specific goals – we teach them how to fish as they will for sure wish to fish again!”
We also encourage you take part in other interesting career-focused events, such as Tradler’s exciting escape room recruitment experiment – which you can find out more about in this article – and JOBarcelona, our city’s famous recruitment fair.
On top of our careers fairs and excursions, we also organise a number of company visits throughout the year. This gives you the opportunity to see the businesses you are most interested in, in action. Learn how companies of different sizes operate and ask all of those burning questions you’ve always had.
Expert speakers
We also regularly host guest speakers from our community. These experts share their industry knowledge, practical advice and insight. These sessions are also often open to the public, offering you a valuable chance to network, as well as to learn. You can find out about our next session on our events calendar and read some summaries of our recent guest speaker sessions here:
