Welcome to the Global Tourism Module, a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic and multifaceted world of tourism. In this module, you will embark on a journey to uncover the intricate web of industries and sectors that together constitute the vibrant tapestry of the tourism landscape. Beyond mere sightseeing, this course delves into the economic intricacies and far-reaching implications of tourism, offering insights into its sustainable growth and long-term impact through effective public-private partnerships.
Drawing on the backdrop of our strategic location in the heart of tourism, this module places a special emphasis on the bustling city of Barcelona as a prime case study. Through a critical analysis of the Barcelona business tourism model, you will gain a deep understanding of the key factors that drive successful tourism development in an urban context.
ESEI employs a project-based learning and assessment methodology across all modules taught in our master programmes. This innovative approach means students collaborate in groups to develop projects that demand creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
The primary advantage of this method is that by the time students graduate, they will have compiled a portfolio of work. This portfolio will be directly relevant to their future roles, whether as employees or business owners, showcasing their hands-on experience and skills.
Project formats vary and are at the discretion of the instructor. Projects can take the form of case studies, written reports, videos, role-playing activities, podcasts, or any other medium that effectively communicates the students’ ideas. Teachers are responsible for creating project briefs and monitoring team progress with regular updates and check-ins.
Projects will be evaluated based on group and individual contributions, as well as the presentation and subsequent Q&A session, highlighting the importance of both collective and personal efforts in achieving project objectives.
A significant portion of the grade, 20%, is determined by students’ engagement and participation in class, reflecting the value placed on active involvement and contribution to the learning environment.

He has more than 20 years of extensive experience in the tourism sector worldwide, actively working as an expert consultant specializing in the fields of destinations strategic planning, tourism sustainability, quality standards implementation, feasibility studies for hotel and leisure mixed-use projects, tourism markets research, capacity building, community engagement, institutional strengthening, and tourist product creation.
PAX# Genuine Tourism Advisors: Pau Pitarch cofounded the consulting company in 2010, and since then excels in his role as Partner Consultant, advising tourism stakeholders on the transformation to a sustainable holistic paradigm.
Since 2010, as co-founder and partner consultant of PAX # Genuine Tourism Advisors, he has focused on the development of projects to improve the competitiveness of destinations and companies, being strategic planning, sustainability as value creation, and capacity building for the management and governance of tourism projects and destinations, the key axes of the company specialization.
Pau Pitarch brings his extensive knowledge to the classroom, teaching a module in Global Tourism. The course is tailored to develop capabilities and competencies in the management of tourist destinations in the face of global challenges, and also in applying the keys to competitiveness in hotel businesses.
