At ESEI International Business School, our alumni are a reflection of the global, collaborative, and hands-on learning that defines our community. Bianca, originally from Greece, is one of those alumni whose journey exemplifies how ESEI helps students grow personally and professionally. We spoke with Bianca about her experience studying in Barcelona, the skills she gained, and how she has applied them in her marketing and communications career since graduating.
A Journey Across Europe and Into Marketing
Bianca’s academic path spans multiple countries and disciplines.
“My name is Bianca. I am from Greece, currently living in Athens. I majored in Communication, with a specialisation in Advertising and Public Relations. During my bachelor’s degree, I studied Communication at Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris as part of my Erasmus exchange. The following year, while completing my bachelor’s studies, I also pursued a minor in Management. Finally, I decided to pursue my Master’s in Marketing and Communication in Barcelona,”
she explains.
Her choice to study at ESEI was influenced by both personal and professional motivations.
“I was really drawn to Barcelona, the Spanish culture and language. I wanted to practice my language skills, be part of a new culture, and meet new people. I chose ESEI because I was intrigued by the project-based learning. It allowed me to develop problem-solving skills, collaborate in international teams, and think strategically under real business conditions.”
Bianca reflects on the impact of studying in Barcelona on her personal and professional growth.
“Studying at ESEI allowed me to gain a clear understanding of what I wanted to do professionally. I met wonderful people from all over the world and made very meaningful friendships. Working in a diverse environment strengthened my ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds, communicate effectively across cultures, and adapt skills that are essential for marketing and communication roles.”
Launching a Career in Marketing and Communications
Bianca’s studies at ESEI helped her find a career path aligned with her passions. “I’ve always been drawn to travelling, learning languages, and connecting with people. Marketing and communications felt like a natural fit, as it combines creativity with building meaningful relationships across different cultures and markets”, she says.
After graduation, Bianca used the ESEI Career Portal to secure her current role. “I found my current position through the Career Portal after graduation. I’m working at a business consulting agency based in the UK, operating remotely. The agency offers a wide range of services, including event management, sales, marketing support, as well as database creation and administration.”
One of its biggest clients is IFEMA MADRID, the largest exhibition and conference centre in Spain. The agency is also the official representative of IFEMA Madrid for the UK and Ireland, supporting companies that want to enter the Spanish market.
“We help small and medium-sized companies understand how to participate as exhibitors or visitors at IFEMA Madrid,” Bianca explains. “We also assist them in securing exhibition, event, and conference spaces.”
On a personal level, Bianca manages marketing content creation on Instagram and LinkedIn, generates leads, and helps attract and engage potential clients and partners. “My role allows me to apply everything I learned about marketing and communication while working with clients from different industries, from technology and sustainability to fashion and food,” she adds.
Skills Gained Through Project-Based Learning
Bianca highlights the specific skills she developed at ESEI that are essential in her day-to-day work. “One of the most important skills I gained was learning how to represent ideas clearly and engage with stakeholders. In my current role, I’ve had the opportunity to attend trade fairs in Madrid and London, represent the company in person, and interact directly with clients,” she explains.
She also credits ESEI’s project-based learning for strengthening her problem-solving abilities and professional approach. “Sometimes we have to tackle crises immediately, so problem-solving skills are key. Working on real-world projects with real companies gave me practical experience and prepared me to handle these situations effectively.”
Bianca also gained valuable experience through volunteering.
“I volunteered at the TEDx ESEI event, which was a rewarding experience. I worked on event management and logistics which reinforced my interest in event-based marketing and people-centred communication.”
Advice for Future Marketing and Communications Students
Bianca encourages current and future ESEI students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. “I would definitely take advantage of Career Day and the Career Portal. Networking is crucial. Even if it is just reaching out to a professor whose course you enjoyed, following them on LinkedIn, or looking at potential job openings, it makes a big difference.”
She emphasises that building relationships, engaging in real-world projects, and practicing communication skills are key to launching a career in marketing. “ESEI prepares you to work in diverse, international environments and to approach challenges with confidence and creativity,” she concludes.
