Originally from Milan, Fabiola Pauletti came to Barcelona to study an MBA in Business Administration at ESEI International Business School. For her, moving abroad was more than just an academic decision. It was a chance to grow personally, develop new skills, and immerse herself in an international community.
“I wanted to improve my English and experience life in an international environment,” Fabiola explains. “ESEI was perfect because the classes are full of students and professors from all over the world. Everyone brings something unique to share, and you learn so much from each other.”
Living independently for the first time also shaped her experience. “It was my first time living away from my parents and brothers. At first, it was a challenge, but then my flatmates became like family. You live together, eat together, and have fun together.”
Life and Learning at ESEI
At ESEI, Fabiola found a teaching approach that suited her perfectly. The smaller class sizes allowed her to connect closely with professors and classmates. “There are usually around 20 people per class, so you can really talk with the teacher, ask questions, and work in groups. It makes you feel more confident speaking in public,” she says.
Studying in English also pushed her outside her comfort zone. “At first, it was a bit difficult because I was used to studying everything in Italian. But at ESEI I never felt judged for my English. The important thing was to communicate and participate.”
A Summer Internship in Italy
During the summer, Fabiola returned to Italy for a three-month internship at TEHA Group, where she worked as a consultant in the healthcare team. The role gave her hands-on experience combining business strategy with the healthcare sector.
One of the highlights of her internship was contributing to the Ambrosetti Forum. Organised by The European House – Ambrosetti, a leading consulting firm, the forum is an annual international economic conference held at Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, on the shores of Lake Como. “I was a consultant in the healthcare team, helping to organise events, write reports, and participate with clients,” she says.
Her internship also included attending a major healthcare event in Rome. “During the event in Rome, I learned a lot about cardiovascular issues and had the chance to meet very important institutional figures,” Fabiola explains. “It was amazing to take part in something so significant.”
Finding Inspiration in Healthcare
Fabiola’s interest in the healthcare sector started unexpectedly during her time in Barcelona. “My flatmates in Barcelona were studying medicine, so I was surrounded by conversations about medicine. That is when I started to see how economics and healthcare can work together,” she says.
Now, she hopes to continue exploring that connection in her future career. “In the future, I would love to work with companies like TEHA Group or others that focus on healthcare consultancy. It is a field where I feel I can really make an impact.”
Looking Ahead
As Fabiola completes her MBA at ESEI, she is already thinking about how to apply her skills to the next stage of her career. “Studying at ESEI helped me develop the confidence to work internationally,” she says.
Her journey from Milan to Barcelona, and her internship in Italy, reflect exactly what ESEI stands for: combining academic excellence with real-world experience, cultural exchange, and personal growth.
