Popular culture. A fine display of popular culture, with giants, beasts and bighead figures.
The 12th Popular Culture Festival in Raval-Santa Madrona is being held on Saturday, 25 March.
The event starts at 4.30 pm with figures on display in Plaça de la Gardunya, where the participating groups will gather: Els Bouets i la Vaqueta del Raval, Capgrossos del Raval, Cavallets de Mataró, Gegants de Casablanca, Trinitat Vella, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, El Masnou and Fènix del Poblenou.
The procession sets off at 5.30 pm and takes in the local streets and squares: Pl. Gardunya, C/ Carme, La Rambla, C/ Hospital, C/ Maria Aurèlia Capmany, C/ Carme and Pl. Gardunya.
The afternoon winds up at 7.30 pm with a dance display from the different participating figures. The groups will use these dances to pay tribute to the city’s third patron saint, revalidating a tradition that has gradually made a place for itself on the city’s festive calendar.
This is a public event organised by Associació Institut de Promoció de la Cultura Catalana. ESEI Community are all invited to participate!
