At ESEI International Business School, students are taught by professionals who actively work in their fields. Bela Weksler, lecturer in Digital Transformation in HR and Digital Transformation Strategy, combines over a decade of experience in human resources, talent acquisition, and technology with her background in psychology and coaching, offering students a unique perspective on modern workforce challenges.
From Brazil to Barcelona: A Journey Focused on People and Technology
Born in Brazil, Bela has been living in Barcelona for nearly nine years. She studied psychology and coaching, and is completing a master’s in organisational psychology. Over the past ten years, Bela has worked primarily in the technology sector, including at Autodesk and various startups. She has experience in all areas of human resources, including recruitment, training and development, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
“Most of my life has been corporate,” Bela explains. “I’ve always been a corporate person, but I always go back to my psychology roots. Emotional intelligence and self-awareness are always part of my conversations.” Currently, she is a Talent Acquisition Manager at a cybersecurity company, managing recruitment across multiple locations and designing recruitment and onboarding processes from scratch.
Her professional background allows her to bring a deep understanding of people, organisational behaviour, and technology to her teaching. “I love understanding people’s brains. Recruitment gave me the chance to build relationships, but coaching and training let me accompany people’s development further,” she says.
Applying Real-World Experience in the Classroom
Bela’s teaching philosophy is grounded in real-world experience. She emphasises honesty and vulnerability, sharing lessons from her own career successes and mistakes. “I always bring my own experiences—things I’ve lived, things I’ve seen, learnings. I try to show my vulnerability as well: places where I went wrong or things I wish I had known at the time,” she says.
She also invites industry colleagues to give students practical insights. “In my last class, I brought a colleague from the industry. Everything she said reflected what we discussed in class, and students were able to see how concepts apply in real life,” Bela explains. By integrating practical activities and tools used in modern HR, she ensures that students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for the workforce.
Navigating a Complex HR Landscape
Bela teaches students to understand the challenges of today’s human resources environment, including hybrid workforces, remote teams, employee disengagement, and the integration of technology such as artificial intelligence. She highlights the importance of transparency and trust in the workplace. “When people are not sure what is happening, distrust develops. Open communication allows teams to tackle challenges together,” she says.
The modern workforce requires adaptability. Bela teaches students that change is the only constant and that success often depends on resilience and flexibility. “Life throws curveballs. You might be the hardest worker, but things do not always go your way. Students need to understand that change is constant and everything is a learning opportunity,” she explains.
Developing Skills and Mindsets for the Future
Bela focuses on developing both practical and personal skills. She encourages students to:
- Adopt a growth mindset by seeing challenges as learning opportunities.
- Think critically and solve problems by analysing complex HR and organisational scenarios.
- Understand diverse perspectives and develop cultural awareness, particularly in international environments.
- Apply practical HR tools to simulate real-world workflows and processes.
- Emphasise emotional intelligence and self-awareness to navigate workplace dynamics effectively.
She advises students, “Come into the course with curiosity. Even if it is just one thing that piques your interest, explore it. The more curious you are, the more you can engage and gain from the class.”
Preparing Students for Real-World HR and Digital Transformation
Bela Weksler’s courses at ESEI equip students with the skills needed to succeed in digital HR roles and navigate complex organisational structures. Her combination of corporate expertise, psychological insight, and practical teaching ensures students leave with not only knowledge but also the confidence and adaptability to excel in modern workplaces.
“Being practical, sharing experiences, and showing vulnerability allows students to connect with the material and prepare for real-world challenges,” Bela says. By learning directly from a professional actively working in the field, students gain both theoretical and applied understanding of HR and digital transformation.
At ESEI, professors like Bela demonstrate how integrating professional experience into teaching creates an engaging and impactful learning environment, preparing students to meet the demands of today’s ever-evolving workforce.
