A Week of Coding and Digital Skills: Tec de Monterrey Students at 42Barcelona
- Categories Field Visits
- Date 3 de December de 2025
In November, our students from Tec de Monterrey took part in a coding and digital skills immersion at 42Barcelona by Fundació Telefònica, one of the most innovative learning spaces in the city. The campus forms part of an initiative backed by Telefónica Foundation, the Generalitat of Catalonia, and Barcelona City Council, created to meet the growing demand for digital talent and prepare learners for new technology-driven careers.
Barcelona ranks as the fourth most innovative city in Europe and twenty-first in the world according to the Innovation Cities Index 2021. It is also a leading hub for technological entrepreneurship, recognised for three consecutive years as the third most attractive European city for launching a startup. This context makes the 42 model highly relevant for students developing skills that match current industry needs.
Throughout the week, the Tec de Monterrey students worked through intensive, hands-on tasks focused on core programming concepts. Using 42Barcelona’s peer-to-peer, project-based learning system, they explored Python, Linux, and other essential tools used in modern software development. These experiences encouraged students to think independently, test ideas, and collaborate effectively, while steadily progressing through increasingly complex challenges.
The students’ reflections underscore how meaningful the programme was in practice. Tanit Pacheco explained:
“This course helps us to reinforce skills for programming. It will help you to understand the basic things about Python. I think everyone nowadays has to have the basic knowledge of programming. And Python is one of the basic and easiest languages in programming. I think this course would be perfect for everyone that wants to know programming.”
Similarly, Gabriel Armas highlighted the value of coding knowledge in today’s world: “I do believe that a general knowledge in coding is necessary because we are in a technological era. It is nice to have the ability to code for yourself and for your work.”
Their perspectives illustrate not only the importance of technical competence but also the confidence and curiosity that come from learning in a hands-on, real-world environment. This aligns with ESEI’s commitment to connecting students with practical experiences that enhance both their personal and professional development.
We were pleased to support their learning and look forward to future programmes that continue to help students grow, explore, and prepare for the demands of a technology-driven world.
